Since 1989, the Powerhouse Eatery has been providing customers with an exceptional dining experience in a unique, historic atmosphere. The former power plant from which we take our name has been transformed into a contemporary dining destination, welcoming patrons from throughout the country to our home in White Haven, Pennsylvania. Yet the distinctive past of our building is always present in our remarkable experience, accompanied by our relentless attention to detail, fierce commitment to quality, and peerless customer satisfaction.
Our History
In the late 19th century, a group of philanthropists were seeking a location for an institution constructed to specifically treat people suffering from "consumption," a bygone term for tuberculosis. In the days before vaccinations and antibiotics, cold, dry air was believed to have a therapeutic effect for sufferers of TB. The town of White Haven offered such a climate, in addition to other geographical benefits. White Haven was easily reached by train from New York; at the same time, it was isolated enough to provide a measure of containment against the spread of TB.

We are conveniently located off I-80, exit 273.
From 476: take exit 95 to I-80 West where you will take exit 273. Once at the end of the ramp, make a left if coming from I-80 West and right if coming from I-80 East.
From 437: we are located directly after the I-80 East exit ramp.

Old coal-fired power plants have in some cases become a destination. At the Powerhouse Eatery, diners are served dishes of oysters, lobster, and filet mignon in a space that used to supply power to a sanatorium.

Our Preparation
We are committed to providing customers with the highest-quality food and ingredients. The Powerhouse Eatery pledges to source locally, partnering with Baldor Foods to bring peak-season ingredients from vendors within a 65-mile radius of our restaurant whenever available. Our flexible kitchen staff can accommodate all of your needs, including vegan options, gluten-free preparation, and any other special requests that you may have.
